Installation
How much will my project cost?
Our initial design consultation is free. We will provide a total estimate once we have assessed the job site & taken measurements. You can decide from there if you want to move forward with your project.
How long will my bathroom remodel take to complete?
Typically 2-3 weeks. Larger or more complex jobs may take a little longer. On any project there are multiple determining factors including job size, material inventory, permit or licensing requirements, schedules of additional contractors, and various other circumstances that can come into play.
At any rate, we will be dedicated to your project from start to finish and complete our work in a timely manner.
Do I need to hire a general contractor?
General Contractors are recommended, but not required. This ultimately depends on the size & location of your project. Something simple like a backsplash or fireplace typically won’t require a general contractor. Entire bathroom or kitchen remodels have a little more going on and you will want to make sure you have your painting, cabinets, countertops, etc. while meeting local building codes for framing, plumbing, & electrical work.
Hiring a general contractor will help you manage everyone’s assignments as well as ensure you get quality work done in all aspects of your project. You may be required to hire a general contractor depending on local permit & building code requirements in your area. It may be in your best interest to hire someone with experience to help you navigate these processes if you are taking on a larger project or entire renovation.
Should I use ceramic or porcelain tile?
One isn’t necessarily better than the other, it just depends on where its going in the house. Ceramic tile is softer with a glaze that makes it waterproof and durable. Porcelain tile is more dense and less porous, making it a better option for a shower or floor application. Ceramic tile is generally more affordable than porcelain tile, so the size of your project is always something to consider if you’re working within a certain budget.
What is the difference in floor tile & wall tile?
Wall tile can be thinner and is not intended for load bearing applications such as a floor. Floor tile is usually thicker and can have a textured or matte finish in order to prevent slippage and accidents in the area. Glass tile should not be used for floor applications or wet areas if it can be avoided.
Do I need to seal my tiles?
A glazed tile is already waterproof so sealer isn’t necessary in most applications. Our preferred grout also contains built in sealer with stain & mold resistance so if we do the job there’s no need to seal the grout.
Do you install shower doors or glass panels?
OBX Tileworks does not install shower doors or glass panels, but we can put you in touch with a reputable glass door installer in the event that your contractor doesn’t not have one.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Which cleaning products do I use to clean my tile shower?
We recommend windex with vinegar or other mild cleaning solutions. Bleach may have adverse effects on natural stone or certain types of tile. Before applying any cleaning solution to the entire area we always suggest using a small amount of cleaner in an inconspicuous area, or on a scrap piece of tile to test out the final effects of the solution.
What kind of cleaner can I use to clean my LVP flooring?
Use Encore, COREtec cleaning products, or solutions specifically formulated for LVP and vinyl flooring. Do not use detergents or abrasive cleaners due these products leaving a dull residue that may deteriorate your product over time.
